夕燒的舊學名是Ammannia sp. ''sulawesi''，是一種比較珍貴的水草，目前只生長在印尼的Sulawesi島。
這種就像晚霞一樣漂亮，也是因為這樣的特色而得名“夕燒”。夕燒的顏色根據栽培的條件不同而變化，尤其是受光照強度的影響，可以由橘色變為暗紅色。夕燒的生長速度比較慢，所以培育起來也比較困難，如果光照強度不夠，不僅葉色體現不出來，而且會出現溶葉現象，所以光照的強弱是影響夕燒是否長成的關鍵。
