國王迷宮灰白色的身體上佈滿了不規則形狀的黑色斑紋，形成了強烈的對比，在體長不到十厘米的時候尤為明顯，當長到成魚以後，黑色的細紋逐漸變多變細，體色也轉為黯淡，不如幼年時對比那麼強烈。而且國王迷宮的體型較為修長，年幼時體型纖細是的尾鰭顯得特別大，尾鰭呈漂亮的燕尾形狀。
