哥倫比亞燈體型較大，初始體色呈深灰的亮銀色，鱗片有光澤，不透明，各魚鰭透明或呈黃色；髮色後雄性哥倫比亞燈體表有藍綠色的金屬反光，各魚鰭變為紅色，尾鰭則呈深紅色，魚體散發出幻彩一般的光芒，故又名“紅尾夢幻燈”。
Tip:在適應新環境期間可能會有褪色現象，體色會比較暗淡，依環境條件的不同會直接影響體色恢復的時間。
