Silkworm Eggs (Student Silkworm Raising Set Living Silkworm + Basic Tool Kit)

Hatching of silkworm eggs: temperature around 20°C, within 7-15 days (don’t be impatient). When the silkworm eggs slowly change from gray to grayish white, they are about to hatch. (Note that the temperature should not exceed 32°C, otherwise the silkworm eggs will be easily scalded to death.)

After hatching, the silkworm eggs will enter a dormant state, during which they will not eat or move for 2-3 days, with their heads slightly tilted upwards, looking like they are asleep. (Note: Try not to move them during this time, as it will interrupt their molting process).

Silkworms shed their skin four times in their lifetime. Newly hatched silkworms are called ant silkworms, also known as one-year-old silkworms. Each molting lasts about 2-3 days. After molting once, it is called a 2-year-old silkworm. The age of silkworms is calculated based on the number of times they shed their skin. You will grow a lot after shedding your skin. The silkworm sheds its skin once every 7 days or so. After 4 moltings, the silkworm will spin a cocoon in about 7-8 days!

7-8 cm is a healthy silkworm. It takes about 32-42 days from silkworm egg to adult to cocoon. Be patient and observe carefully! Silkworms are afraid of sunlight, so they cannot be exposed to the sun. I am also afraid of water. Too much humidity can easily make me sick.

How to avoid the death of silkworms: Generally, death is caused by problems with the breeding environment and feeding leaves of unknown origin.
The ambient temperature should not be too low or too high, normally it should be between 18-30°C. Pay attention to ventilation, and the environment should not have irritating odors. At the same time, silkworms are afraid of sunlight and water, and it cannot be too humid. Keep good hygiene and clean up the dead leaves in time.
