The head of the white-headed tiger is slightly pointed, the mouth is larger, and the lower jaw protrudes slightly forward. The nostrils are far from the edge of the eye. The canine teeth of the upper and lower jaws are underdeveloped. Gill rakers are generally 7. The pylorus is flat and unbranched, divided into three leaves. The scales are slightly larger than those of similar fish. There are three narrow black stripes on the gill cover at the back edge of the eye, and there is a black spot on the upper corner of the posterior gill cover.
