圓尾鬥魚喜歡幽暗的環境，可在缸內植入金魚草，在缸底放入千層石、鵝卵石,有利於營造隱蔽的環境。圓尾鬥魚不屬夜行性魚類，夜間不活躍全部趴在水面或者寂靜處休息，圓尾鬥魚夜晚視野不好儘量避免餵食或者驚擾，因此環境光線要暗些；如果長期在明亮的地方飼養不利於圓尾鬥魚的發色。

成體尺寸：8-10 釐米左右
飼養水溫：一般6～30℃之間都能成活，水溫處於24～27℃時最適宜其生長
