同屬於短塘鱧屬的皇后塘鱧，原產於澳洲和新幾內亞。本種的體色為淡黃褐色，還帶有一些藍色光澤。體側有一些深黑色或藍綠色的小斑紋，各鰭呈現淡黃或淡橘色，有黑白花紋，其中背鰭、腹鰭和臀鰭外緣還鑲有淡藍邊，頭部會帶有橘紅色。母魚體色則為金褐色，體側具有一條深色縱帶，和短塘鱧同樣體色多變，成熟公魚進入發情期後體色會變得極度火紅、豔麗，美麗無法言喻。
