原產地為非洲東部的馬拉維湖。體長12公分的中型慈鯛，地域變異種至少5種，食性上偏向藻食性，藍色為體色的基本色調，且對比極為強烈，體紋甚而轉為深藍黑色，雄魚有點暴躁，打鬥厲害，不太容易與其他品種一起飼養，是外銷評價不錯的魚種。
