Japanese ants are active outside the nest frequently on sunny days but inactive on heavy rainy days. The activity of small worker ants increases before and after heavy rain. Before the rain, they mainly build dams around the nest entrance to block the nest entrance. After the rain, open the nest opening, repair the nest, and move soil particles outward. Large worker ants leave the nest in search of food, usually as individual individuals. Occasionally, several groups of ants are seen leaving the nest to forage and carry large amounts of food. The foraging route is generally about 10 to 20 meters away from the nest, mainly looking for aphid honeydew, buds and buds of coniferous broad-leaved trees and some small animals (including insects) on the ground or on herbs and woody plants.
