秀美金球魨是一種身體光滑的河豚，它不像大多數河豚那樣在不“生氣”時外表像棍棒一樣，而是更像大海裏的月亮魚，嗟系那個翻車魚。此外他還有著非比尋常的美麗彩虹色，顏色通常在金色，綠色和青銅色之間調節。
秀美金球魨是熱帶淡水魚，分佈於亞洲泰國、馬來西亞及印尼淡水水域，體長可達10-12釐米，棲息在底層水域，以昆蟲、蝦、魚、螺、蟹等為食。和其他汽水河魨不同，飼養此魚不需加鹽，純淡水即可。
可以餵食動物飼料，如蝦乾、魚乾、蟲乾，偶爾餵一下活餌也很有趣哦。
