類高屏鱲是原生魚愛好者中的夢幻魚種。
飼養需要高溶氧和大缸，缸底鋪深色細沙，此魚喜歡跳躍，所以魚缸須加蓋，同時該魚為溪流魚類，在有條件的情況下使用造浪系統，營造其野外生存環境。其習性以及形態與寬鰭鱲比較相似。
類高屏鱲在生長到一定階段後，體長達到8厘米左右時，大約3個月大就會開始發色。發色過程可能逐漸進行，從最初的淡淡色彩逐漸變得鮮艷。確保水溫適宜、水質清澈，並設置適宜的缸體和水流條件，為類高屏鱲提供高蛋白、營養豐富的飼料，會更有利於髮色
