原產於南美亞馬遜河流域的菠蘿魚，是慈鯛魚裏面比較斯文的品種。平日就看見它懶洋洋的在水裏飄來飄去，或者是安靜的躲在水草叢裏。是可以和其他溫和大型熱帶魚混養的絕佳品種之一。
菠蘿魚在飼養上對水質要求不高，對各種飼料的接受度高。繁殖起來也比較容易，混養時可以多加一些沈木和躲避物。繁殖期間會比較兇殘。
喜歡中性水質，最愛動物性活餌料 幹餌料 人工飼料等。
溫馨提示：幼魚需要的溫度較高 27-30℃為最佳。成體魚22-30℃飼養都可以（26以上更佳）
