金背黃金米蝦和極火蝦類似，是櫻花蝦這類米蝦的提純種，飼養條件和櫻花蝦完全一致，比較簡單。唯一需要注意的是極火蝦、櫻花蝦、金背米蝦均可雜交，雜交後代返祖回黑殼蝦，所以飼養是需要將每個品種單獨飼養。不過金背米蝦不會和水晶蝦雜交，所以可以一同飼養。
