波葉血蓮原產著名的開普省，納馬誇蘭。一種葉子不輸花的血蓮品種，紅邊波浪葉，背面虎斑紋，很有美感。
波葉血蓮被稱為歐版“彼岸花”血蓮,開花不見葉,葉子和花朵永遠不能同時出現。
血蓮在夏季休眠期時，所有地上的部分都會變幹，以防止水分通過蒸騰作用流失。然後會在秋天長出綠葉之前，從裸露的地底下長出細長的紅色的莖，並且盛開出血紅色的花朵，令人歎為觀止，“血蓮”的名字也因此而來。
