布朗尼辣椒榕產於西加裏曼丹(West Kalimantan)境內，位於卡普阿斯(Kapuas)河上游的一條支流叫葫蘆(Hulu)河流域，其地理位置相當特殊，是人煙稀少的原始熱帶雨林區，這片土地直至今日一直由土著民族達雅克族居住著。屬於布朗尼(Brown)辣椒榕系列之一。布朗尼名稱的由來，是日本採集者中本勝也(Nakamoto Katuya)將它命名的，因為這類新水草在印尼的原產地並無地名，再加上種類又多，他似乎不喜歡以傳統的新產地(new location)或編序之方式來稱呼，於是將它們統稱為''Brownie''(中文譯為''布朗尼'')。
