黃耳龜眼睛後方長有明顯的縱向黃斑，每一枚肋盾上亦長有黃色的縱紋，僅在腹甲靠近頸部兩塊盾甲長有兩個圓形的深色斑漬；分佈於維吉尼亞州的東南部至佛羅里達州的北部。
黃耳龜喜愛曬背，時常可以在一根合適的木頭上，看到它們一個一個地疊在一起。幼龜采食水生昆蟲、甲殼類、軟體類，和小魚，成年後有一定的植食性。喜深水，水性好。
黃耳龜天性活潑，膽大，與飼養者互動性較好，體質遠超同類龜種，龜苗時期保證了溫度和食物的情況下，成長非常迅速，成活率極高。
